Dear Colleagues,

I attach the May edition of LLS News.  As you may be aware we have been going through some changes in Lifelong Learning and this newsletter is to try and keep everyone up to date. Feel free to contribute to the next edition if you want to and you should send any articles or news type items to Mark Piggott at mark.piggott@towerhamlets.gov.uk.

Ofsted Monitoring Visit is over!
by Andrei Baternay (a) - Thursday, 18 March 2010, 10:59 AM

They came, they've seen, they left.

For those that are interested, they have concluded that on all but one of their 'themes' (and these are areas that the last year's Inspection has identified as in need of improvement) the Service has made 'Reasonable Progress' and on the remaining one, a 'Significant Progress'.

This is good news for the Service.

But, following discussions with staff, tutors and learners, of whom many are worried about the effect the Restructure will have on courses and the Service as a whole, they have notes that an 'Area of Risk' exists in relation to this.

As such, they are recommending that the next Full Inspection to be brought forward.

What this means is that, whereas the next full Ofsted Inspection would have been in, say 3 or 4 years time, it would instead be in 2 or 3 years.

And of course, they and the LSC are monitoring the results, and if things do not continue to move in the desired direction, another Ofsted Monitoring visit from them, may be coming in the meanwhile.
